George brings more than two decades of experience leading product and technology teams delivering global solutions in a variety of industries. Prior to joining Heru, he worked as the head of engineering for Amazon Studios where he managed creative, post-production, and innovation labs supporting global production of Amazon’s award-winning original content.

“Bob’s experience in growing and leading top engineering organizations as well as his expertise in securely scaling high-availability global platforms is critical to Heru’s mission of enabling access and a better standard of care for everyone.” said Mohamed Abou Shousha, MD, PhD, CEO of Heru. “His background in designing scalable and performant cloud architectures supporting artificial intelligence and machine learning consumer products will be invaluable as we continue to invent life-changing solutions for patients worldwide.”

Heru continues to work in collaboration with experienced executives to advance the company’s commitment to improving the quality of life for millions of patients with visual defects. The company recently announced a $30 million Series A funding round, which will be used to advance the development of the company’s FDA approved Heru RE: eye diagnostic and vision correction & augmentation technology platform.

Before joining Amazon, George won multiple Microsoft Partner of the Year awards in health, education, and media & entertainment as the Director of Enterprise Solutions for SADA Systems, Inc., a global leader in cloud solutions and digital transformation.  George earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Indiana University where he focused on big data, data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

“When I saw how Heru is changing people’s lives, restoring their autonomy and confidence, by using AI and ML to augment their vision, I knew I needed to be a part of this new standard of care. I can’t think of any mission more fulfilling than helping people see enough to regain freedom in their lives,” said George. “Throughout my career I have obsessed over delivering great customer experiences, but Heru’s advancements in AI and ML are next-level, not just for my desire to delight customers, but for the eye care industry as a whole.  I’m extremely excited to build upon Heru’s innovations while growing their world-class engineering organization.”
