SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

How Heru
Stacks Up

A PRISMA-guided systematic review compared several VR perimetry devices, grouped by regulatory status, vs. the Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) to determine validity.

If you’re interested in elevating your exam lane but want to make sure you’re investing in the best option, check out the review. The data doesn’t lie.

Among all devices evaluated, Heru demonstrated the highest intraclass correlation coefficient—ICC = 0.97 for both mean deviation and mean sensitivity, the gold standard metrics for visual field assessment.”

Journal of Glaucoma: Comparison of Visual Field Test Measurements with a Novel Approach on a Wearable Headset to Standard Automated Perimetry

This study of inter-test comparability of a novel visual field application installed on an augmented-reality portable headset and Humphrey field analyzer Swedish interactive thresholding algorithm (SITA) Standard visual field test demonstrates the excellent correlation of mean deviation (MD) and mean sensitivity (MS). The Heru visual field test correlated well with SITA Standard in a population of normal eyes and eyes with glaucoma.

Pupillometer Consistency and Reproducibility

VR headset–based pupillometry demonstrated excellent reproducibility for pupil size measurements and 100% agreement in reactivity classification among control subjects, with good consistency for accommodation and moderate consistency for constriction velocity.

Assessment of the Reproducibility of Pupillometer Measurements Obtained from a VR Headset: a Control Subject Analysis

Bascom Palmer researchers found VR headset–based pupillometry highly reproducible for pupil size measurements in control subjects, supporting its potential as a consistent assessment tool.

Sensitivity and Specificity of Heru Prime in the Diagnosis of Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect

Heru Prime detected relative afferent pupillary defect with 99% accuracy, 94% sensitivity, and 100% specificity versus masked ophthalmologist examination in a 146-patient prospective study.

Heru Prime re:Imagine AI-Based Algorithm vs. Zeiss Humphrey SITA Standard Strategy

Heru Prime's re:Imagine algorithm cut visual field testing time by nearly a minute versus Humphrey SITA in normal subjects, with comparable times and strongly correlated results in glaucomatous eyes.

Ocular Alignment Evaluation Using a Novel Software Application Running on a Virtual Reality Headset

A VR headset–based digital cover test significantly differentiated ocular alignment status in 65 patients, with tropia measurements strongly correlated to masked clinical examination (r = 0.813, P < 0.001).

Sensitivity and Specificity of Heru Prime in the Diagnosis of Eye Motility Restrictions

Heru Prime detected eye motility restrictions with 90% accuracy, 80% sensitivity, and 90% specificity versus masked ophthalmologist examination in 113 patients.
